Starplex Cinemas

Starplex Cinemas is a national motion picture exhibitor headquartered in Dallas. With 33 locations, over 346 screens, and operations in 12 states, Starplex Cinemas is one of the 12 largest movie exhibition companies in the United States. The majority of Starplex’s theatres are strategically located in secondary markets where they enjoy limited competition from other out-of-home entertainment options. Starplex is well known for offering first-run films in state-of-the-art auditoriums at affordable prices which has allowed the company to enjoy above average industry growth.

Trinity Hunt Partners partnered with Starplex’s management team to execute an opportunistic growth strategy. In December 2012, Trinity Hunt Partners merged its former portfolio company, ShowPlex Cinemas, with Starplex Cinemas to attain additional scale and position the company for continued growth. Prior to the merger, Trinity Hunt had grown ShowPlex through screen expansions at existing locations, selected acquisitions, and the implementation of digital projection technology. THP successfully exited its investment in Starplex in December 2015, through a sale to AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc.
